Ross Drum Studio has been running parallel alongside Simon Millest’s professional drum career since 1988. The first studio, was his personal rehearsal room at his home in the centre of Ross on Wye.

Within a few months of opening this studio, lesson time was running at capacity, drawing drum students from Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, some even travelling from as far away as Bristol, Abergavenny and Birmingham. It was a very busy time, and it was always great to hear back from former students who have continued playing, and indeed, some who have forged very successful careers within the business.

In 1997 Simon took on the drum gig for Midlands band Talon. This meant that with most of his time on tour, he would only be able to maintain a few students. Meanwhile nearly fourteen years later, it's time to retire from the hectic touring schedule and for 2010, set up a new exciting full time teaching facility which would allow him to continue his passion for passing his knowledge and skills to the next generation of creative drummers.

"Ive always enjoyed teaching and imparting what I know to others. Even through really hectic touring periods I’ve always maintained a few drum students because I just love doing it.

I have experienced drum lessons in my early playing years from various tutors. Some have been good, some great, but generally the standard of teaching, and specifically the facilities, have been awful, from dark smelly rehearsal rooms with sticky carpets, to guys teaching from spare bedrooms, poor equipment and worst of all - a bit of spare cash for beer - as a teaching motive.

I’ve taken the best elements from all the good experiences, avoided all the bad stuff, and have created a good, conducive environment in which to learn and to teach from.

My Studio features a large bright airy teaching room, with natural daylight, great acoustics and world class equipment. It comes with the most important factor in any Drum Teaching Studio - a tutor who genuinely cares and takes pride in what he does, and who can help, motivate, mentor and inspire".
